Toxicological sheet

Since the entry into force of Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP), it has been mandatory to comply with Article 45 thereof on the appointment of bodies responsible for receiving information relating to medical treatment in the event of emergency:

Member states shall appoint a body or bodies responsible for receiving relevant information from importers and downstream users placing mixtures on the market, in particular for the formulation of preventive and curative measures, especially in the event of emergency health responses. This information shall include the chemical composition of mixtures placed on the market and classified as dangerous on the basis of their health or physical effects, as well as the chemical identification of substances in mixtures for which the Agency has accepted an alternative chemical name under Article 24.

In Spain, the appointed body was the National Institute of Toxicology and Forensic Sciences (INTCF), while the notification procedure by means of safety data sheets is regulated by Order JUS/836/2013. We should mention that products with a notification obligation shall be communicated before June 2017.

There is currently no harmonisation either in the format or the notification procedure on a European level, with each country having its own unique notification system. However, efforts are being made to harmonise the content of toxicological profiles on a European level, in which SIAM is actively involved as a member of several working groups (beta tester of the toxicological profile creation platform on a European level, working group on UFI, etc.)

Chemeter offers the possibility of the automatic creation of safety data sheets in accordance with requirements in Spain and Portugal. Likewise, our advisory service sends notifications to various poison centres in Europe.
