800 250 250 becomes the only number of the INEM Poison Information Center (CIAV)
From next july, the old number will no longer be operating and 800 250 250 becomes the only number enabled for calls to the poison centre linked to the National Institute of Medical Emergencies (INEM) in Portugal. The new number is free to ensure access to the service for all citizens.
CIAV is the only national poison centre associated with the INEM which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, attended by specialized medical personnel and that it's available through an exclusive free telephone line- 800 250 250 , that has already been active for a year but, from now on, it becomes the only one available after the previous number (808 250 143) ceases to be active on July 1.
According to data provided by INEM, the CIAV receives approximately 30,000 calls annually, dealing with inquiries about drug poisoning or unwanted exposure to chemicals related to household products or pesticides.
Henceforth it will be mandatory for all companies working with chemical components to update their information to include the updated number on their safety data sheets and labels.
