United Kingdom Confirms Extension of UK REACH Registration Deadlines Until 2031

The UK Government has officially published the regulation extending the transitional registration deadlines under UK REACH. The measure provides companies with additional time to complete their registration dossiers following Brexit, establishing new deadlines between 2029 and 2031 depending on the substance type and tonnage band.

On 16 July 2026, the REACH (Amendment) (No. 2) Regulations 2026 were officially published, introducing a legislative amendment that confirms the extension of the transitional registration deadlines under UK REACH. The regulation, which entered into force on 6 August 2026, affects companies that continue to operate under the transitional arrangements established after the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the European Union.

The extension reflects the UK authorities' intention to provide industry with additional time while the reform of the UK REACH system continues. According to the Government, this measure will facilitate compliance with regulatory obligations and help avoid the unnecessary duplication of data that has already been submitted under EU REACH.

The new deadlines for submitting full registration dossiers are as follows:

• 27 October 2029 for higher-priority substances, including certain CMR substances, substances that are very toxic to aquatic life, and substances included on the UK REACH Candidate List.
• 27 October 2030 for substances manufactured or imported at volumes of 100 tonnes or more per year, as well as certain substances added to the Candidate List at a later stage.
• 27 October 2031 for all other substances manufactured or imported at volumes of one tonne or more per year.

Although the extension of the deadlines is now final, the regulation does not yet introduce the anticipated Alternative Transitional Registration Model (ATRm). This model forms part of the broader reform of the UK REACH system and remains under development. Companies must therefore continue to comply with the current requirements until further regulatory measures are adopted.

The UK authorities recommend that companies review the regulatory status of their substances, verify which deadlines apply to them, and maintain appropriate planning for future registrations in order to avoid supply chain disruptions or regulatory non-compliance.
