The Ministry of Environment of Chile has taken a decisive step toward the safe management of chemical products with the publication of the second edition of the National Inventory, a key tool for transparency and environmental protection.
One year after the publication of the first National Chemical Substances Inventory, Chile is releasing the second edition of its inventory, expanding the available information and incorporating new hazardous substances registered in the country. This update strengthens the nation’s commitment to chemical safety and regulatory transparency.
The inventory compiles detailed information on substances manufactured, imported, and marketed within the national territory, including data on volumes, uses, and hazard characteristics. Its aim is to protect human health and the environment, ensuring more responsible management aligned with international standards.
A key highlight of this edition is the inclusion of 11 hazardous substances used in non-industrial settings, such as consumer products and professional applications. According to Chile’s REACH Regulation, hazardous substances not listed in the inventory and with an annual production or import volume equal to or greater than 1 ton are considered “New Substances.” In addition, companies must update the registration information for hazardous industrial-use substances registered in 2024 by August 30, 2026.
Chile launched its Chemical Substances Registration Platform in January 2024, and the registration of existing substances concluded on August 30, 2025. Staggered deadlines have been established for registration according to the type of substance:
For companies, this publication represents an opportunity to review their processes and adapt to new requirements, contributing to a safer and more sustainable environment.
